About the Community:
Loaded with photo-worthy charm, Chestnut Hill is tucked in the northwest section of Philadelphia, just 25 minutes from Center City.

And thanks to its location near Wissahickon and Cresheim creeks and Fairmount Park, this National Register Historic District enjoys an abundance of greenery and open spaces.

Once a suburb where well-to-do Philadelphians escaped the city’s summer heat, Chestnut Hill saw an influx of year-round residents with the arrival of railroads in the 19th century.
Since then, it remains a relatively affluent community with an array of historic mansions and Victorian twin and row houses.

One of the oldest settlements in Philadelphia, Germantown has a relaxed, backyard feel that complements its many historic attractions.
Unique eateries and stores thrive next door to 300-year-old buildings and significant American Revolution sites comprising Germantown Avenue, the main thoroughfare connecting Germantown to Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill.

Just 20 minutes from Center City and running approximately from the historic Stenton house to the Cliveden mansion on Germantown Avenue, Germantown’s is a long and interesting story ripe for exploration: three centuries of founding, settlement, tolerance, patriotism, abolitionism, architecture, industry and community service.

On the list of Philadelphia’s quirkily named geographic landmarks, Manayunk ranks near the top.

This Native American word, meaning “where we to go drink,” references the neighborhood’s location next to the Schuylkill River. Though the river helped shape Manayunk’s identity, so do the hills. Yet despite its famous inclines — or maybe because of them — what was once one of the city’s hottest industrial centers is now one of its hottest neighborhoods. Incidentally, it offers plenty of places to grab a drink.

The heart and soul of the community is Main Street, a mercifully level thoroughfare bustling with dozens of restaurants, owner-operated boutiques, bars and galleries. Daytime activities give way to nighttime action as foodies and revelers hit the streets, scoping out new menu items at restaurants, jockeying for views at riverside clubs, catching up-and-coming local musicians or dancing to DJ music.

Sometimes a name so perfectly fits a neighborhood that it immediately creates an accurate mental image.

Gently rising from the banks of Wissahickon Creek roughly 20 minutes from Center City, Mt. Airy combines dense leafy parkland, miles of multi-use trails, tree-lined streets and a historic cobblestoned business corridor attracting aspiring entrepreneurs.

Mt. Airy’s varied architecture recounts its historical roots. Structures dating back to the 18th century commingle with Victorian and 20th-century homes.

The community’s Quaker roots might be one reason Mt. Airy became a model of diversity early on. Since the 1950s, the community has earned a national reputation for welcoming families of all races, genders, religions and nationalities who share a fierce commitment to civic engagement and social activism.
